the brief
Qi Kwan Do is a martial arts school that held deep meaning for a colleague’s son with special needs. The brand has a strong heritage but relies on dated raster assets, so the project focuses on giving QKD a modern breath of fresh air—developing clean, versatile vector artwork suitable for embroidery, print, and future brand growth.

Understanding the key elements and distinctive assets from the original logo, it was obvious the dragon, yin and yang and the bright red and yellow colours needed to make their way into the final logo. Overhauling the dragon from scratch and illustrating to sit centrally around the dots of the yin yang transformed a difficult to scale logo into something modern and clean. Now built to work as only 2 or 3 colours, it is appropriate for printing but doesn't abandon the soul of the original by using detailed illustration instead of completely oversimplifying.

A clean and modern logo appropiate for all formats, a new suite of assets and guidelines built for the future, whether it's a new studio, future badges for students or anything for social.
